Local riders compete
COSTA MESA - Newport Harbor High freshman Rebecca Agnew earned a
pair of second-place finishes in varsity jumpers to highlight a list of
local riders competing at the first two shows of the Interscholastic
Equestrian League, Oct. 2-3 at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
Agnew, riding Coconino Kid, was second in table II-2.b and II-2.c Sunday.
Newport Harbor’s Lindsey Dorris earned back-to-back second-place showings
in junior varsity working hunters, Saturday and Sunday. She was also
fourth in JV English pleasure, fourth in JV IEL medal and sixth in JV
equitation over fences Saturday. She was ninth in both JV English
pleasure and JV IEL medal Sunday.
Newport Harbor High freshman Rebecca Walton was fifth and ninth in
equitation over fences and IEL medal events Saturday.
Newport Harbor junior Nicole Schwartz was sixth (western limit pleasure),
seventh (western limit showmanship) and ninth (western limit
horsemanship) Saturday, then was ninth, 10th and eighth in the same
events, respectively, Sunday.
Representing Corona del Mar High in the novice division, Jillian Van Ness
was seventh in hunters under saddle and hunt seat equitation Sunday. She
was 10th in hunters under saddle and English pleasure Saturday.
Newport Harbor sophomore Lawrence Washington was sixth in western novice
horsemanship Saturday to highlight his two days of competition.
Olivia Clement, riding for Ensign Intermediate, was ninth in western
novice equitation and ninth in western novice horsemanship Saturday.
Senior Tiffany Washington also represented Newport Harbor in the two
shows, which included riders from 45 schools from Orange, Los Angeles and
Riverside counties.
The next show is scheduled Nov. 7.
