Eagles impressive in victory

COSTA MESA - Estancia High’s boys cross country looked strong again
in a 15-50 shutout of Costa Mesa while the Eagles’ girls team earned it’s
first win of the year, 24-31, at Fairview Park against the Mustangs.
Estancia placed the top six runners in the boys race. Danny Vargas, Luis
Segovinao and Humberto Rojas finished in a pack for the first three
places. Mike Casillas, Eric Lopez and Abe Inouye crossed the line next.
Costa Mesa’s best finisher was Mike Williams, with a time of 18:26, good
for seventh place. Dasan Bushell and Brian Hemenover finished together
for eighth and ninth for the Mustangs.
Estancia’s girls team barely beat Costa Mesa team fresh off an impressive
win against Laguna Beach. Liz Huipe of Estancia finished far ahead of
everyone with a time of 20:10. Sarah Cotton of Costa Mesa was second 23
seconds later.
Janet Cahuentzi of Estancia and Michelle Barnett of Costa Mesa were third
and fourth and the Eagles had the slight lead. Then Maria Arroyo and
Stephanie Melendez finished together at fifth and sixth to give Estancia
the win.
Estancia’s boys team improves to 2-1, while the girls team is 1-2. Costa
Mesa’s boys team is 0-3, while the girls team falls to 1-2.PACIFIC COAST
