Fireworks to light up the sky tonight at the Dunes
-- Greg Risling
There isn’t any planned holiday today, but there will be a
fireworks show this evening at the Newport Dunes Resort and Marina.
Residents shouldn’t fret when they hear the loud explosions, which are
scheduled to start around 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are part of an awards
ceremony honoring the Newport Beach Fire and Marine Department.
People who live near the bayside resort can watch the spectacular
show. Residents are also invited to attend the event. Tickets are $25.
Some residents were upset earlier this year when fireworks lit up the
sky at the resort. The occasion was a private birthday party that
prompted about 100 calls to the Newport Beach Police Department from
residents. Resort management said they would abandon further private
functions where pyrotechnics are used.
“We just wanted people to be aware that there are fireworks,” said Lt.
John Blauer, community relations officer for the Fire and Marine
Department. “We hope everyone will enjoy the festivities in and around
the marina.”
