Surf City USA Marathon caps weekend festival in H.B.
Running and revelry combined in Huntington Beach over the weekend during a three-day festival culminating in the Surf City USA Marathon and Half Marathon.
The seaside festivities kicked off Friday and featured an Active Lifestyle Expo — billed as the largest of its kind on the West Coast — that included local businesses and nutrition and fitness exhibitors.
Saturday saw the inaugural Surf City Kids Cowabunga Beach Challenge, a half-mile run on the sand with the chance to conquer obstacles such as the Cargo Net Crawl, Trash Can Slalom, Hay Bale Climb, Sand Pail Carry and Balance Walk.
On Sunday, runners set off along Pacific Coast Highway for a 5K, the 26.2-mile marathon — a Boston Marathon qualifier — and the half-marathon.
