A 53-year-old man was arrested in Laguna Beach on Saturday on suspicion of hitting a bicyclist with his car two days earlier and trying to hit another, police said.
Laguna Beach police responded to a report of a disturbance at 9:42 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Bluebird Canyon Road and South Coast Highway.
Witnesses told officers that a motorist struck a man riding a bicycle. When confronted by another bicyclist, the driver tried to run him over and then drove off, police said. The condition of the man who was hit wasn’t known.
Detectives got a description of the motorist and identified a possible suspect, whom witnesses picked out in a photo lineup, police said.
Officers pulled over Kevin O’Neill of Laguna Beach on Saturday and arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the case.
O’Neill was booked into the Theo Lacy jail in Orange with bail set at $25,000, according to jail records.
