Hundreds of people got in a lot of exercise Sunday during the inaugural Surf City Escape Triathlon in Huntington Beach.
More than 500 amateur athletes competed alongside 30 professionals who were vying for a $20,000 prize and a spot in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on June 3 in San Francisco.
The Surf City race, which began in a beachside parking lot alongside Pacific Coast Highway, featured a 1-mile ocean swim, 12-mile bike course and 6.2-mile run along the coast.
