Decorated kites take flight in H.B. to aid lung cancer research

Kite fans hoped to raise more than their kites Sunday in Huntington Beach — they also aimed to raise funds and bring awareness to lung cancer research.

People gathered on the sand in front of Pier Plaza to decorate and fly kites with messages honoring people who are living with or have died because of lung cancer.

Money raised from the inaugural Your Next Step is the Cure Kite Fly will go to the San Carlos-based Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation.
