Balboa Island welcomes fall with inaugural carnival

The inaugural Balboa Island Carnival & Taste of the Island brought old-fashioned family fun to Marine Avenue on Sunday with rides, games, a dunk tank and food to help Newport Beach celebrate the first weekend of fall.

The four-hour event, presented by the Balboa Island Improvement Assn., also featured a pie-eating contest, a fashion show, raffles and a beer and wine garden.
