Irvine Regional Park to host O.C. 125th-anniversary celebration

As Orange County celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, the Orange County Historical Commission and OC Parks will present a “quasquicentennial” festival on Saturday at Irvine Regional Park.

The celebration will feature historical highlights and demonstrations, plus walking tours of the park. Food will be available for purchase, and the event will end with an old-fashioned ice cream social.

The entry fee includes parking, a copy of “100 Years of Yesterday,” a historical site map, the ice cream social and entry to the OC Zoo.

The celebration commemorates the county’s formation in 1889, when area residents voted to separate from Los Angeles County and form Orange County. The new county began official business on Aug. 1 that year.
