Newport mayor launches Facebook page

Newport Beach Mayor Mike Henn has launched his own Facebook page. Henn will use Facebook to discuss “higher-level policy, strategy and issues of importance to large numbers of residents,” according to the page.

He will “post updates, read comments and reply as time permits.”

A self-described “technological dinosaur,” Henn has said his daughter will help him with social media.

One of his first posts was a series of “scenic shots,” which are mostly postcard photos of Newport’s tourist highlights: the Balboa Pavilion and Fun Zone, the Balboa Island Ferry, the Dory Fishing Fleet and other locales.

One of the photos is of a solid 20-foot south swell at the Wedge — a shot the fit mayor may or may not have taken while out bodysurfing.
