Laguna police arrest seven at checkpoint

Laguna Beach police arrested seven people at a DUI checkpoint last weekend, according to a news release.

Three were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and four on other criminal charges, the release said. The checkpoint was set up from 9 p.m. Saturday to 2:45 a.m. Sunday at North Coast Highway and Crescent Bay Drive.

Police also cited 15 motorists for driving an unlicensed car or driving on a suspended or revoked license.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
