Laguna Beach police arrested a woman on suspicion of driving under the influence after she sped along Laguna Canyon Road and rear-ended a van Saturday, injuring the driver, Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.
Irvine resident Alissa Kathleen French, 28, was charged with felony DUI after the crash, which occurred at 7:09 p.m., according to the Laguna Beach police log.
The van’s driver suffered a laceration to the back of his head and was treated at Hoag Hospital, Callus said. French, who was driving a black Honda SUV, had a lacerated toe, according to police.
French, who had been outbound on Laguna Canyon Road, drove illegally in the double-left turn lane at a high rate of speed, police said.
A stopped car facing the other direction was waiting to make a left turn, and French swerved back into the outbound lane and rear-ended the van, Callus said.
Police and fire department officials responded. French refused medical treatment, according to Callus.
