Fourth brings much of the same for Laguna police

Laguna Beach police arrested slightly more people on July 4 this year compared with 2013, though calls for service decreased, according to department statistics.
Nine people were arrested this year while six were arrested in 2013, Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.
Of the nine arrests, two were for drunk driving and three were for public intoxication, police said.
Reported traffic collisions also increased, from three in 2013 to five this year.
Even with the uptick in total arrests and reported traffic collisions, police received fewer calls for service on July 4 this year, 249 compared with 271 in 2013, according to statistics.
“As a whole, the day looked to be average for July 4,” Callus said.
