Pedestrian injured crossing Coast Highway

A 22-year-old Australian woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after a car struck her as she crossed Coast Highway on Wednesday night, Laguna Beach police said.

Police and fire received five 911 calls at 10:44 p.m. reporting the collision in the 31400 block near Laguna Royale.

A witness said the woman had been on the ocean side of Coast Highway when she ran across the street, Kravetz said.

A car heading north on the road struck the woman, who was not in a crosswalk, and the driver immediately stopped, Capt. Jason Kravetz wrote in an email. The driver is a Laguna Beach man, but police didn’t release his age or the type of vehicle.

The woman was transported to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo.

The driver was not arrested and drugs and alcohol are not suspected, Kravetz said. The accident is still under investigation.

Traffic in both directions of Coast Highway was closed for one hour.
