Laguna Beach lifeguards recently moved into a new headquarters building on Main Beach, according to a city news release.
The temporary headquarters building was removed from the site two weeks ago, the release said.
Public restrooms are now open, workers are installing sod where the temporary restrooms once stood, and new sidewalks and landscaping are being added to the area, the release said.
Crews are also finishing up landscaping, railings and a pathway at Heisler Park.
Once that work is complete, probably this week, the temporary stairway to Heisler Park can be removed, the release said.
Built entirely from concrete, the new, two-level headquarters building spans 6,000 square feet, project manager Wade Brown said.
The facility, which serves as a dispatch center, features men’s and women’s restrooms and showers, solar water heating, training and briefing rooms, and a place to treat stingray and other wounds. Construction began in October 2012.
The city has spent $5.6 million on the construction, Brown said.
