Edison High graduates remember past, look to future
A powerful moment happened Thursday at the Edison High commencement ceremony.
Thursday would have been the 19th birthday of senior Josh Page, who was killed with his sophomore brother, Jeremy, in a car crash in March.
The Page family attended the ceremony at Huntington Beach High, and Josh’s older brother accepted his diploma on his behalf.
Overall, 517 students graduated from Edison this year. ASB president Colin Ryder, also a four-year water polo player, served as the event emcee and also gave a speech.
Student speakers also included Robert Johnson, the ASB assemblies commissioner, an accomplished musician and four-year water polo player. Caitlyn McCullough, a well-rounded Charger selected by a panel of teachers, also addressed her fellow graduates.
The staff speaker was Matthew Whitmore, an English and CIBACS teacher who is also the head swim coach.
The Edison choir, led by teacher Jeremy Cooley, sung the national anthem.
Jeff Ciccarelli, a track star who was also Edison’s outgoing band major, led the senior class in one last “Thunderclap” right before the students turned their tassels.
