Costa Mesa’s SpringFest celebration has kids, families hopping into city’s Lions Park

Although Costa Mesa’s SpringFest celebration on Saturday was a first-ever event, hundreds of children and their families hopped on over to Lions Park to pet bunnies, ride trains and partake in a mad dash for eggs filled with prizes.

Hosted by the city’s Parks and Community Services Department, the Easter weekend festival aimed to introduce Costa Mesans to the newly renovated park area, where several improvements have been undertaken and opened for public use since the start of the pandemic.

In addition to a new event lawn outside a refurbished Donald Dungan Library, city officials have celebrated the opening of a new Norma Hertzog Community Center and a complete makeover of the ever-popular “Airplane Park” playground.

Recreation Manager Monique Villasenor told the Daily Pilot last week SpringFest was just one of several new city events being planned in the coming months, as residents begin to resurface in public after two years of pandemic restrictions.

Children on Saturday played games, posed for photos with a Spring Bunny and were treated to an interactive musical dance party led by the high-energy trio Kids Imagine Nation.
