Newport Beach police investigating fatal shooting near Indus Street and Redlands Drive
Newport Beach police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Thursday morning in the area of Indus Street and Redlands Drive.
Police responded to a 4:13 a.m. call about a man who was reportedly suffering from mental health issues or was possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol. As Newport Beach police were on their way, the man is alleged to have forcibly entered a residence and was subsequently shot.
Police found the man dead at the scene.
Police said that the shooter was an occupant of the house, but neither the identities of the victim nor the individual who shot the man have been released. Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Heather Rangel said that detectives and crime scene investigation personnel are currently conducting an active homicide investigation.
There is no current threat to public safety, according to police.
