Laguna Beach seniors graduate under the lights

Laguna Beach High School saw 240 seniors sunset their time in secondary school with the commencement ceremony on campus Thursday at Guyer Field.

“The LBHS faculty and staff have been continuously amazed at the resiliency and adaptability that our students have shown,” Laguna Beach principal Dr. Jason Alleman said in a statement. “We are all excited to honor the class of 2021 after a unique and challenging school year.”

Laguna Beach Unified School District Supt. Dr. Jason Viloria also offered his compliments to the graduates.

“I am honored to stand alongside the class of 2021 as we acknowledge, celebrate and commemorate their resilience, perseverance, accomplishments and successes,” Viloria said. “This class has spent the majority of their upper-class experience navigating through a global pandemic.”

Those in attendance were led in the Pledge of Allegiance by senior class president Keller Kramer. Matthew Duong delivered the valedictorian address, and Audrey Sutton was another student speaker.

Laguna Beach school board president Carol Normandin was on hand to accept the class of 2021.

Each graduate received four tickets to graduation, which were distributed digitally. Guests were asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing.

Graduates also celebrated their accomplishment a day early in a procession to Main Beach. Laguna Beach assistant principal Dale Miller said the event was organized by a graduation committee of parents.
