79-year-old Santa Ana man killed after being hit by car in Huntington Beach

Juan Martinez Tovar, 79, of Santa Ana, was killed early Wednesday morning after he was hit by a car on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach.
Huntington Beach police said Tovar was walking in the traffic lane just south of Brookhurst Street at about 5:10 a.m. Wednesday. He was hit by a 2013 Toyota Matrix that was traveling north on Pacific Coast Highway, Sgt. Matthew Austin said.
Police identified the driver of the vehicle, which had no other passengers, as a 59-year-old man from Newport Beach. He stayed at the site of the incident and was cooperating with the investigation, police said. He was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Huntington Beach Police Department Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team. Anyone with information is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.
