An on-duty Fountain Valley Police Department officer was involved in a car accident early Sunday morning while on the way to assist another officer on a traffic stop, police said.
A police statement said the driver of a white 2017 Nissan Pathfinder, traveling westbound on Slater Avenue at Magnolia Street, ran a red light at 3:02 a.m. Sunday. The driver, described as a 37-year-old Buena Park man, broadsided the patrol vehicle, police said.
Fountain Valley police Sgt. Donald Farmer said the driver was arrested and released from custody, pending an investigation. He did not specify possible charges, but said the arrest was in relation to the crash.
Police said the officer suffered minor injuries and the other driver no injuries. Both went to local hospitals and were released, the statement said.
Names of those involved were not released, as police said that the investigation is ongoing.
