Orange County reports 5 deaths due to COVID-19

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported five coronavirus deaths and 239 new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, on Saturday.
During the pandemic, the county has had 1,286 deaths and experienced 54,357 infections.
There are currently 160 residents hospitalized due to the virus, and 47 of those patients are being treated in intensive care units.
The county healthcare agency numbers also show that 10,074 coronavirus tests were reported within the last day, bringing the number of tests administered to 891,104. An estimated 48,831 people in the county have recovered after contracting the virus.
Orange County currently resides in the second, red tier of the state’s color-coded guidelines for reopening. The county has seven-day averages of 4.4 new daily cases per 100,000 residents and a testing positivity rate of 3.1%. Those statistics come with a seven-day lag.
The criteria for the third, orange tier requires a county to have between one and 3.9 new daily cases per 100,000 residents, while the testing positivity rate can land between the range of 2% and 4.9%.
Below are the coronavirus case counts and deaths for select cities in Orange County:
- Santa Ana: 10,473 cases; 283 deaths
- Anaheim: 9,284 cases; 278 deaths
- Huntington Beach: 2,419 cases; 76 deaths
- Costa Mesa: 1,831 cases; 34 deaths
- Irvine: 1,713 cases; 13 deaths
- Newport Beach: 1,137 cases; 25 deaths
- Fountain Valley: 516 cases; 17 deaths
- Laguna Beach: 226 cases; fewer than five deaths
Here are the case counts by age group, followed by deaths:
- 0 to 17: 3,885 cases; one death
- 18 to 24: 8,208 cases; four deaths
- 25 to 34: 11,694 cases; 19 deaths
- 35 to 44: 8,650 cases; 36 deaths
- 45 to 54: 8,762 cases; 108 deaths
- 55 to 64: 6,511 cases; 185 deaths
- 65 to 74: 3,280 cases; 259 deaths
- 75 to 84: 1,855 cases; 274 deaths
- 85 and older: 1,463 cases; 400 deaths
