Rain, rain may not go away for a few days, forecasters say

Clouds that sprinkled the area with rain for a day earlier this week barreled back in Thursday, bringing some heavy downpours.

John Wayne Airport recorded 0.88 inches of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Though the storm was expected to let up by Friday, Joe Sirard, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, suggested not stowing the umbrellas yet.

A deep moisture layer lingering over the region could keep things damp, with a chance of showers through Sunday, according to the weather service. Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the mid-60s, with nighttime lows in the low 50s.
