In the Arts: Film society presents movie and a meal

The Laguna Beach Film Society plans to ring in the holidays with a potluck starting at 6 p.m. Thursday. Guests are invited to bring a dish to share and enjoy some wine at the Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Drive.
The event will also feature 15 Oscar-nominated shorts, including “The Longest Daycare” and “Buzkashi Boys.” Screenings will begin at 7 p.m. at the South Coast Cinema, 162 South Coast Hwy.
For nonmembers of the society, tickets to the screenings cost $8 pre-sale or $10 at the door ($5 for students). The cost is $20 if the potluck reception is included. Members are admitted free.

The Arts Commission has picked 12 designs by children ages 5 to 17 from 238 submitted for the annual 2013 Children’s Holiday Palette Exhibition
The works will be on display at City Hall, 505 Forest Ave., until Jan. 18.
