LOS ÁNGELES/EFE — William Klug, profesor de Ingeniería Mecánica y Aeroespacial en la Universidad de California en Los Ángeles (UCLA), ha sido identificado como la víctima del tiroteo ocurrido hoy en el centro educativo.
Según fuentes consultadas por las cadenas locales de ABC y NBC, Klug fue supuestamente disparado y asesinado por un estudiante aún por identificar, que posteriormente se suicidó.

“Me siento indignado”, dijo Renjie Li, uno de los alumnos que identificaron a Klug, en declaraciones al portal de noticias de NBC.
“Es increíble que alguien le hiciera esto a un profesor joven que acababa de empezar su carrera en UCLA. Es una lástima”, agregó.
Previamente, el jefe de la Policía de Los Ángeles, Charlie Beck, había confirmado que las dos víctimas eran hombres y que las autoridades encontraron una nota junto a los cuerpos, pero no aclaró si se trataba de una confesión o una nota de suicidio.
El campus de la Universidad permaneció cerrado desde las 10.00 hora local (17.00 GMT) mientras las autoridades organizaban un potente despliegue policial, formado por decenas de agentes.
Los estudiantes del centro fueron desalojados y reubicados en uno de los edificios del recinto, indicó la universidad.
El Departamento de Policía de Los Ángeles informó que el suceso tuvo lugar en el edificio de la Facultad de Ingeniería.
“Estamos en el edificio de música. Estamos en una habitación bastante aislada”, declaró a Efe por mensaje de teléfono móvil un estudiante que buscó refugio en el campus.
“Acaba de entrar otro compañero. Dice que venía de otro edificio y había masas de gente corriendo en dirección contraria. Había un helicóptero (...) y bastante actividad policial”, agregó el estudiante.
El Buró Federal de Investigación (FBI) envió agentes en el campus, mientras que la Policía de Los Ángeles declaró una “alerta táctica” en la ciudad y envió cientos de policías al campus y alrededores, informó el diario Los Angeles Times.
Se da la circunstancia de que la selección de fútbol de Brasil tenía programado un entrenamiento en las instalaciones de la Universidad con vistas a su participación en la Copa América, que finalmente tuvo lugar en el StubHub Center de la cercana ciudad de Carson.
